"Who am I to judge her ?" This phrase shocked many Catholics when it was uttered by Pope Francis upon his return from World Youth Day in 2013 in Rio de Janeiro.

The full sentence is: “ If a person is gay and seeks the Lord with good will , who am I to judge him?”

It constitutes a public position on a subject that has long been very sensitive for many Christians in general and for the Catholic Church in particular: homosexuality .
